The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Offerlane contained the following places:

"OFFERLANE, a parish in the barony of Upperwoods, Queen's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles W.S.W. of Mountrath, its post town. It is 9 miles long by 8 broad, and contains the villages of Castletown and Coolraine. The rivers Tonnet and Nore here join their waters. The Slievebloom mountains render the surface hilly. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ossory, value £543, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is a modern structure, erected chiefly at the expense of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. There are several Roman Catholic chapels, also Sunday and daily schools in the parish. Roundwood may be mentioned as one of the numerous seats. In this parish are remains of three castles and ruins of Monderhilt monastery."

"ANNATRIM, a village in the parish of Offerlane and barony of Upperwoods, in Queen's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, not far from Coolrain. An abbey formerly stood here."

"COOLRAIN, a hamlet in the parish of Offerlane, barony of Upperwoods, in Queen's County province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles to the S.W. of Mountrath. Here is a police station. Coolrain House is the principal residence."
