The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Mahoonagh contained the following places:

"MAHOONAGH, a parish in the barony of Glenquin, county Limerick, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles S.E. of Newcastle, its post town. It is 4 miles in length, and the same in breadth. The surface consists generally of good land, and is intersected by the river Deel and the road from Newcastle to Mallow. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Limerick, value £425. The Roman Catholic Chapel is united to that of Feohonagh. There are four day schools. Maine House is the chief seat. The objects of antiquity are Castlemahon Tower and Fitzgerald's Fort."
