The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ballyovey contained the following places:

"BALLYOVEY, a parish in the barony of Carra, in the county of Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 7 miles to the N.W. of Ballinrobe. It is situated in a mountainous and pleasant country on the shores of Loughs Mask and Carra. The living is a rectory, part of the union of Burriscarra, in the diocese of Tuam, Killala, and Achonry. There are two Roman Catholic chapels. The principal seats are Tarmacady and Partree; the former, situated among the mountain recesses, is a summer residence of the Plunketts."

"PARTRY, a village in the parish of Ballyovey, barony of Carra, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 5 miles N.W. of Ballinrobe. It is situated on the road from thence to Castlebar, between Loughs Carra and Mask. It has a dispensary, which is within the Ballinrobe Poorlaw Union."
