The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilconduff contained the following places:

"KILCONDUFF, a parish in the barony of Gallen, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, containing Swineford, its post town. Its surface has a large extent of moor and bog, and cultivation is much behindhand. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Achonry, value with two others, £320, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was erected in 1810 by the late Board of First Fruits. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Meelick. There are seven day schools. Brabazon Park is the demesne of Sir William Brabazon, Bart. The road from Ballina to Ballaghdireen crosses the parish."

"OLDCASTLE, a demesne in the parish of Kilconduff, barony of Gallin, county Mayo, Ireland, 2 miles from Swinford, and 15 N.E. of Castlebar. It is situated on a branch of the river Moy."

"SWINFORD, a post and market town in the parish of Kilconduff, barony of Gallen, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 15 miles S.E. of Ballina, and 140 N.W. of Dublin. It is situated on the river Swinford, and is a rising place. It contains the parish church, Roman Catholic chapel, National school, court-house, and police station. General sessions are held in April and October, and petty sessions once a week. Swinford is the head of a Poorlaw Union, and contains the union poorhouse. Tuesday is the great pig market day, and fairs are held 1st February, 17th March, 20th May, 2nd July, 18th August, 31st October, and 18th December."
