The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilcummin contained the following places:

"KILCUMMIN, a parish in the barony of Tirawley, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 4 miles N.E. of Ballay Castle. It contains the village of Rathlacken, its post town. It is 1½, mile long and half a mile broad. The parish is situated on Killala Bay, near Kilcummin Head. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Killala, value with Lackan, £198. The French landed, in 1798, at a small creek in this parish."
