The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilmainemore contained the following places:

"KILMAINEMORE, a parish and post-office village in the barony of Kilmaine, county Mayo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 3 miles S.E. of Ballinrobe. The parish is about 5 miles square, and contains the villages of Kilmaine, Carrowmore, and Rathgranagher. The surface is a little hilly, but consists of a good soil. The road from Ballinrobe to Galway traverses the interior. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Tuam, value with Kilmaine, £148, in the patronage of the bishop. Glencorrib is the principal residence. Here is a police station, where petty sessions are held, also ruins of an old castle."
