The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Donaghmore contained the following places:

"DONAGHMORE, a parish in the barony of Lower Navan, in the county of Meath, province of Leinster, Ireland. It contains part of Navan its post town. It is situated at the confluence of the rivers Blackwater and Boyne. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Meath, value with Navan £566, in the patronage of the crown. Here is a day school, supported by private subscriptions and the National Board. In the Roman Catholic arrangement this parish is united to Navan. The principal seats are Black Castle, Ratholdron Castle, and Nevinstown. A round tower, some 100 feet high and 66 feet round, is said to mark the site of an abbey founded by St. Patrick. Over the doorway is a piece of sculpture representing the crucifixion of our Saviour."
