In 1868, the parish of Dunsany contained the following places:

"DUNSANY, a parish in the barony of Skreen, in the county of Meath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles N.W. of Dunshaughlin, its post town. It is situated on the road from thence to Bective Bridge. The surface consists of good land, and is traversed by a small stream falling into the Boyne. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Meath, value with Taragh, £439, in the patronage of the crown. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Kilmessan. There is a day school connected with the National Board, and another which enjoys the grant of a house and grounds from Lord Dunsany. Dunsany Castle was founded in the 12th century. It passed from the Cusack family to the Plunketts, to whom it gives the title of Baron Dunsany. Within the demesne are the ruins of a church."
