The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Grangegeeth contained the following places:

"GRANGEGEETH, a parish in the barony of Upper Slane, county Meath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles N. of Slane. The surface has a cold appearance, and is traversed by the Devlin stream. Slieve-Begh is on the N. boundary. The road from Slane to Ardee traverses the interior. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Meath, entirely impropriated. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Monknewtown."

"NEWTOWN FORTESCUE, a village in the parish of Grangegeeth, barony of Upper Slane, county Meath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles N. of Slane. It is situated on the road to Ardee. There are a Roman Catholic chapel and a school."
