The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilcarn contained the following places:

"KILCARN, a parish in the barony of Skreen, county Meath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles S.E. of Navan, its post town. The parish is 1½ mile long by 1 broad. It lies along the E. bank of the river Boyne. The surface consists of a good soil; and is traversed by the road from Dublin to Enniskillen. The living is a curacy in the diocese of Meath, value with Skryne, £507, in the patronage of the crown. The church is in ruins. It is part of the Roman Catholic district of Athlumney, and has a-chapel. Kilcarn House is the principal residence. There are large corn-mills."
