The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Loughan contained the following places:

"LOUGHAN, (or Castlekeeran), a parish in the baronies of Castlerahan and Upper Kells, county Cavan and county Meath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles S.W. of Moynalty. It is situated along the E. side of the river Blackwater. The road from Dublin to Enniskillen passes through the parish. The living is wholly impropriate in the diocese of Meath. There is a Roman Catholic chapel, also two day-schools. Maprath House and two or three other residences are seated within the limits.

"RATHENDRICK, a village in the parish of Loughan, barony of Upper Kells, county Meath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles W. of Moynalty."
