The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868
In 1868, the parish of Drumsnat contained the following places:"DRUMSNAT, a parish in the barony and county of Monaghan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles S.W. of Monaghan, its post town, on the road from thence to Clones. The surface includes large tracts of bog and several lakes. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Clogher, value £97, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is a plain building, erected in 1802 by the late Board of First Fruits, and since repaired by the ecclesiastical commissioners. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Kilmore. There is a school connected with the London Hibernian Society, besides three National and three day schools. Thornhill is the principal residence.
