In 1868, the parish of Ballykean contained the following places:
"BALLYKEAN, (or Killeighey), a parish in the baronies of Upper Philipstown and Geashill, in King's County, in the province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles from Portarlington. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Dublin, Glendalagh, and Kildare, of the value of £138, in the patronage of the archbishop.
"CLONYGOWAN, a town in the parish of Ballykean, in the barony of Upper Philipstown, King's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles N.W. of Portarlington. It is situated on the road from that town to Killeigh. Clonygowan House is the principal residence. A fair is held on the 22nd July."
"CUSHINA, a hamlet in the barony of Upper Philipstown, in King's County, Ireland, 2 miles N.E. of Portarlington. It is situated on the Cushina Brook, which falls into the river Barrow."
