The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilgefin contained the following places:

"KILGEFIN, a parish in the barony of South Ballintober, county Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, 5 miles N.E. of Roscommon. Kilroosky is its post town. It is 3½ miles long by 3 broad, and contains part of the hill of Slievebawn, which has an altitude of 857 feet. The surface comprises a considerable proportion of bog and indifferent land. It is traversed by the road from Athlone to Strokestown. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Elphin, value £97, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was erected in 1824 by the late Board of First Fruits. A Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Clontuskert. There are four day schools.
