In 1868, the parish of Killukin contained the following places:

"KILLUKIN, a parish in the barony of Boyle, county Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, containing the village of Croghan, and a small portion of the town of Carrick-on-Shannon, its post town. The parish is 5 miles long and about 1 mile broad. The prevailing character of the surface is low hilly pasture. The rivulet which gives name to the parish traverses the interior in making its way to the Shannon. The parish is also crossed by the road from Carrick-on-Shannon to Frenchpark. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Elphin, value £265, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is an ancient structure. There are a Roman Catholic chapel, a Sunday-school, and several day schools. Croghane is the principal residence. There are remains supposed to be of Druidical origin.

"CROGHAN, a village in the parishes of Killukin, and Killummod, barony of Boyle, in the county of Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland. It is situated on the road from Boyle to Strokestown. There is a dispensary within the Boyle Poor-law Union, and petty sessions are held in the village. Fairs are held on Wednesday after Trinity Sunday, and on the 28th October."
