The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilmeane contained the following places:

"KILMEANE, a parish in the barony of Athlone, county Roscommon, province of Connaught, Ireland, 3 miles S.S.E. of Roscommon, its post town. The parish is 5 miles long by 3 broad. The surface lies along the W. margin of Lough Ree. It is traversed by the road from Roscommon to Athlone. The small stream Hine drains it towards the N. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Elphin, value with Killinvoy, £253, in the patronage of the bishop. There are a Roman Catholic chapel and four hedge-schools. Moate Park is the demesne of Lord Crofton.
