The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Aghanagh contained the following places:

"AGHANAGH, (or Aughanagh), a parish in the barony of Tiraghrill, in the county of Sligo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 5 miles N.W. of Boyle. It is situated on Lough Arrow, and has the Cesh Corran hills on the south. The village of Ballinafad is included in it. More than a thousand acres are covered with water, and a large proportion of the surface is bog and mountain. A good limestone, very much like marble, is quarried here, and used for building-stone. The living is a vicarage united with that of Boyle, in the diocese of Kilmore, Ardagh, and Elphin. Hollybrook, the principal seat, stands by the lough in a pleasant situation, and has well wooded grounds. An abbey once existed here, of which there are still remains.

"BALLINAFAD, a village in the parish of Aghanagh, and barony of Tirerrill, in the county of Sligo, province of Connaught, Ireland, 4 miles to the N. of Boyle."
