In 1868, the parish of Ballingarry Lo contained the following places:

"BALLINGARRY, a parish in the barony of Lower Ormond, in the county of Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 13 miles to the N.E. of Nenagh. It is situated in a cultivated district at the foot of Knockshegowna, "hill of the fairies," which is very lofty, and has a tower on its summit. There is a large extent of bog, and plenty of good limestone. The living is a vicarage, of the value, with that of Uskane, which is united with it, of £156, in the diocese of Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert, and Kilmacduagh, in the gift of the bishop. A castle formerly existed here, of which there are some remains. Lisbryen, Ballymena, Fairy Hill, and Ballingarry Castle, are among the chief residences."
