The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Cloghprior contained the following places:

"CLOGHPRIOR, a parish in the barony of Lower Ormond, in the county of Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles to the S.W. of Borrisokane. It lies along the bank of the river Nenagh, and is traversed by the road from Nenagh to Borrisokane, its post town. It contains parts of loughs Ourna and Claree. The surface is partly common; the soil light, with limestone subsoil. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, united with Finnoe, in the patronage of the bishop. The principal seats are Carney Castle and Ashley Park."
