The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Templedowney contained the following places:

"TEMPLEDOWNEY, a parish in the barony of Upper Ormond, county Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland. The parish lies near the Devil's Bit mountains, and comprises a good soil. It is traversed by the road from Dublin to Limerick. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, value with Ballymakey £469, in the patronage of the bishop. In the Roman Catholic arrangement this parish is united to that of Aghnamadle. There is a Roman Catholic chapel, also the ruins of Knockane Castle."
