In 1868, the parish of Aghaloo contained the following places:

"AGHALOO, (or Aughaloo), a parish in the barony of Dungannon, in the county of Tyrone, province of Ulster, Ireland. It contains the village of Caledon, and is situated on the river Blackwater, which bounds it on the east. The land is fertile and in high cultivation, and the surface is pleasantly diversified with hills and woods. The living is a curacy in the diocese of Armagh and Clogher, value £96, in the patronage of the archdeacon. Caledon Hill is the seat of the Earl of Caledon, and has a wide prospect.

"CALEDON, a small market town in the parish of Aghaloo, barony of Dungannon, in the county of Tyrone, province of Ulster, Ireland, 8 miles to the S.E. of Aughnacloy, and 86 miles from Dublin. It is seated on the banks of the river Blackwater, near the Ulster and Portadown, Dungannon and Omagh Junction railway, to a station on which, jointly with Tynan and Middleton, it gives name. The Ulster canal passes near Caledon. It was formerly called Kennard, and was the site of a castle belonging to one of the O'Nials. The town, which belongs to the Earl of Caledon, is a well-built and thriving place. The houses are mostly of stone, and the town contains parochial, National, and other schools, a dispensary, a police station, and militia barracks. There are large corn-mills near the town, employing many persons. The parish church of Aghaloo, which stands in the town, is a handsome edifice in the perpendicular style, with a tower and spire; there are also chapels belonging to the Roman Catholics and Wesleyan Methodists. Petty sessions are held in the town. No remains are left of the old castle. Caledon Hill, the Beat of the Earl of Caledon, who takes his title from the town, stands in a large and beautiful park, on the banks of the Blackwater. There are several other pleasant seats, among which are Tynan Abbey, Glasslough, Crilley, &c. Saturday is the market day. Fairs are held on the second Saturday of each month."
