The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Aglish contained the following places:

"AGLISH, a parish in the barony of Decies-within-Drum, in the county of Waterford, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles to the S. of Cappoquin. It contains the village of Villierstown, and is bounded on the west by the river Blackwater. The land is generally good, but there is a large surface of waste, and also of bog. The living is a vicarage included in the union of Affane, in the diocese of Cashel, Emly, Waterford, and Lismore. There is an endowed chapel at Villierstown, and several schools are in the parish. Here are remains of Bewley Abbey, and of a fort erected by King John."

"VILLIERSTOWN, a village in the parish of Aglish, baronies of Decies-within-Drum and Coshmore, county Waterford, Ireland, 5 miles S. of Cappoquin, and 28 S.W. of Waterford. It is situated on the river Blackwater, and is a post-office village and police station, where petty sessions are held weekly. The living is a perpetual curacy, value £100. Fairs are held on the 5th June and 4th September."
