In 1868, the parish of Newcastle contained the following places:

"NEWCASTLE, a parish in the baronies of Decies-without-Drum and Middlethird, county Waterford, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles E. by N. of Kilmacthomas. Tramore is its post town. It is 4 miles long, and its greatest breadth is 2 miles. The surface consists of good soil, with a large proportion of bog. It is crossed by the road from Waterford to Cork. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lismore, value with Dunhill, £102. There is a day-school. Knockaderry is the chief residence."

"KNOCKADERRY, a demesne in the parish of Newcastle, county Waterford, Ireland, 5 miles E.N.E. of Kilmacthomas."
