Ochiltree

The quaint country village of Ochiltree sits on the main Ayr to Cumnock road, just west of Cumnock. It has some interesting building styles within the village. Of the the houses in the Main Street is named 'House with the Green Shutters', after the novel by George Douglas Brown, who was born in the village. The book is a powerful tragedy based on a fictitious village of Barbie, but there is a view that the story was clearly based on Ochiltree.

To the North of Ochiltree is Auchinleck House, home of the Boswells. Near by is the ruins of a 14th century Castle.
