Llanddewi AberArth

Is a parish and village in the county of Cardigan, and near the mouth of the river Arth, which here falls into Cardigan Bay; it is 1 mile north-east from Aberayron, 14 miles from Lampeter, the nearest station, on the Manchester and Milford railway, and 23 from Cardigan, in the Lower Ilar hundred, union, county court district and petty sessional division of Aberayron, rural deanery of Glyn Aeron, archdeaconry of Cardigan, and diocese of St. David's.

The church of St. David is a building of stone, in the Gothic style of the 13th century, consisting of chancel, nave, and an embattled western tower, containing 1 bell. There are 350 sittings. The registers date from the year 1737, and include those of the chapelry of St. Alban. The living is a vicarage, with the chapelry of St. Alban Tyglyn, tithe rent-charge £255 average £193, net income £330, with glebe (£5) in the gift of the Bishop of St. David's, and held since 1887 by the Rev. Morgan Evans, of St. David's College, Lampeter, who resides at Aberayron.

There is a Calvinistic Methodist chapel.

Alban Gwynne esq. is lord of the manor and principal landowner; the Earl of Lisburne is also a landowner.

The soil is loamy; subsoil, gravel and slate. The chief crops are barley, wheat and oats. The area is 4,035 acres, rateable value £2,029; the population of the ecclesiastical parish 1,238, civil parish 631
