The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Caerau contained the following places:

"CAERAU, (or Caerra, or Cairau, or Caira), a parish in the hundred of Kibbor, in the county of Glamorgan, South Wales, 3 miles to the W. of Cardiff. It lies near the South Wales railway, and was the site of a Roman station on the Via Julia, covering about 12 acres. Part of the camp still remains. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Llandaff, worth £60, in the gift of the bishop of the diocese The church is dedicated to St. Mary, and stands within the area of the old camp.
