In 1868, the parish of Michaelston le Pit contained the following places:

"MICHAELSTON-LE-PIT, (or Llanfihangelynygwaelod), a parish in the hundred of Dinas Powis, county Glamorgan, 3 miles S.W. of Cardiff, its post town, and 11 from Cowbridge. The parish, which is small, is situated near the coast. The land abounds in limestone, with lead. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Llandaff, value £65. The church is dedicated to St. Michael.
