In the name of god amen The xxvjth day of march 1586. and in the xxviijth yeare of the reigne of our sov[er]agne Lady Elizabeth by the grace of god queene of england frannce & Ireland defender of the faith &c I Humfrye Walrond of Bradefeild in the countie of Devon[shire] esquier beinge sicke in body but of p[er]fect memory (thanks be unto Allmightie god) doe ordaine constitute & make this my Last will & Testament in mannor & forme followinge. That is to say. first I geve & bequeath my sowle to Allmightie god my only maker, & doe hope to be saved by ye death & passion of his sonne Jesus Christ my redemer. Item I geve and bequeath towards the poore mens boxe in Uffecolme to be ymployed in stocke to buye wooll, or other wares to sett the poore on worke xls of Lawfull money of england. Item I geve & bequeath unto Thomas Walronde my sonne one hundred marks of Lawfull money of england. Item I geve and bequeath unto Humfry walronde my thirde sonne Two hundred m[ar]ks of Lawfull money of england. It[e]m I geve & bequeath unto Humfry walrond my youngest sonne the some of two hundred m[ar]ks of Like Lawfull money of england. Item I geve and bequeath unto ye said Humfry walronde my youngeste sonne all ye messuages, Lands, t[enem]ents, & hereditam[en]ts whatsoev[er] w[hi]ch Peter Winsore holdeth in Brodehempston within the mannor of fisheacre. To have and to hould unto him the said Humfrey walrond thounger his executors Administrators, & assignes ymediatly after ye death forfeiture surrend[e]r or other lawfull determinac[i]on or expirac[i]on of the Tearme & Interest of the said Peter Winsor for & duringe the Tearme of Twentie and one yeares, payinge unto theires tholde Annciant rent of Assize duringe the said Tearme of one and Twentie yeares. And my will ys that if william walronde my sonne, and heire Apparant, doe pay or cause to be paied unto the said Humfrey one hundred marks of Lawfull money of england at one Intire payment within one yeare, and halfe yeare next after my deceasse in recompence of the said Tearme of xxjtie yeares. That then the said gifte of one and Twentie yeares of the re[ver]c[i]on of the said messuag[e]s, Lands, Tenements, and other the premisses to be frustrate, voide, and of non effect. Item I geve and bequeath unto Elizabethe walronde my daughter all the wearringe Apparrell whtsoev[er] which was her mothers. Item I geve and bequeathe unto the said Elizabeth walronde one silv[er] bottle gilted, and one sugar box of silver, and a spoune of silver therunto belonginge. Item I geve and bequeath more unto the said Elizabeth a chaine of goulde which was her mothers, which did waye the value of eightene anngells or there aboutes beinge altered by my consente by my sonne william Walronde and made greater therfore I thinke yt necessary and my will ys that she shall have the value as the chaine did way before it was altered. Item I geve and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth Walronde Two sipres Chestes Thone was her grandfather Mores, and thother her mothers, with a springe Locke. Item I geve and bequeath unto will[ia]m Walronde my sonne and heire apparant all my howshold stuffe whatsoever and all other my goods and cattells moveable and unmoveable of what kinde or nature soever they be, and all my debts, billes, bannds specialties, and somes of money owed me (excepte the some of money which is putt oute, and Imploied for the preferment of Elizabeth my daughter beinge at this Instant the some of … Cel[?]xxxiiijli which said some of … Cel[?]xxxiiijli if the said Elizabeth shall happen to deceasse before she shall accomplishe thage of xviij yeares or before she shalbe married: Then my will ys that the same some of … Cel[?]xxxiiijli shalbe and remaine unto my three younger sonnes that is Thomas Humfrey and Humfrey equally to be devided betwene them three or as many of them as shalbe then Lyvinge. I doe allso will that my sonne William Walronde shall sealle unto Richard Lye of Sowton a Lease at reasonable tyme accordinge to the condicion of an obligac[i]o[n] wherin I have entered unto the said Richard Lye. And allso shall passe an estate unto walter Paulke and to any one other named by coppie of courte rowle in re[ver]c[i]on of william Lapthorne and his wife of certeine Barton Lands Lyinge in Brode Hempston within the mannor of Fissheacre. Allso shall passe one other estate to any Two names to be appointed and named by John Murche in revercion of him the said John Murche of one Tenement lyinge in Hennocke within the said mannor of Fisshacre: if the said John Murche doe paye unto the said william walronde Twentie poundes at or before the feast day of Sainte Michaell Tharchangell next ensewinge: Then the same estate to be made within fowertene dayes next after the payment therof. Furthermore my will and wholle intente is that my sonne william Walronde in considerac[i]on that I have geven him all my goods debtes, and specialties shall paye all my debts, and all the Legacies geven and bequeathed in this my present will and Testament whatsoever. And if he shall refuse to paye the same accordinge to the true meaninge of this my Last will and Testament, or doe contrarye or refuse to p[er]forme any thinge hearin conteyned. Then my will and wholle entente, and meaninge ys that all my fee simple Lands messuages rents revercions, services and hereditaments whatsoever in Ippellpen, Stoverton, Bovewayetracie and Brodehempston in the countie of Devon[shire] shalbe and remaine unto my executors by them to be converted, and ymploied for the p[er]formannce of this my Last will and Testament in such sorte as unto them shalbe thoughte convenient and necessarye, either by sale of the fee simple of the said Lands, or otherwise. LIkewise my will ys that the Legacies geven and bequeathed unto my three sonnes shalbe paied unto them by the said william Walronde my sonne within Three yeares next after my deceasse: That is to say: The thirde parte of everye of their Legacies to be paied w[i]t[h]in one yeare next after my deceasse. And thother thirde parte within one wholle yeare then next followinge And one other thirde parte within one wholle yeare then next followinge withoute further delaye. Item my will ys that my sonne william Walronde, and his heires shall permitt and suffer Phillippe Rowland and his wife to dwell and remaine in the cottage erected by the said Phillippe neere unto the Barton of brodefeilde for the Tearme of their Two naturall Lyves without evicc[i]on, or to place them in some other convenient cottage to dwell on. And my will ys that if Thomas walronde, Humfrye walronde and Humfrey walronde or anye or either of them shall deceasse before they shalbe married That then the Legacies bequeathed to them shall remaine to the Longeste Lyver of them. Item I geve and bequeath unto John Bussell my servannt Three poundes of Lawfull money of englande. And I doe appointe constitute and hartelye desire my brother master Jasper More of Hecheberrie, and my Coosyn master John walronde of Bovewaye esquiers to be my executors of truste to execute and see the p[er]formance of this my Last will and Testament accordinge to the true meaninge therof. Item my Will ys that my brother Jasper More shall presently uppon my deceasse have the goverment, and bringinge uppe of Elizabeth my daughter. And I hartely desire him soe to doe. And my will ys that the ten[a]nts of the Late Chaunterie of Northe Currye shall holde and enioye all suche grannts as I have made there. And I hartelye desire my brother Jasper More to see the same p[er]formed as much as in him Lyeth. And I doe appointe and hartelye desire my cosyne Henry walronde of Sea, and my cosyne Charles Bere Esquiers to be overseers of this my Laste will and Testament.
