STREET is a parish, 6½ miles from Lewes, 5 from Hassock's Gate, and 4 from Burgess Hill stations, in the Eastern division of the county, hundred of the same name, Lewes rape, county court district, archdeaconry and rural deanery, Chailey union, and diocese of. Chichester. The church is a small building, in the Early English style, and has a wooden spire; it was restored in 1852. The register dates from 1561. The living is a rectory, value £172 per annum, with residence, in the gift of H. C. Lane, Esq., and held by the Rev. William Anthony FitzHugh, M.A., of Trinity College, Cambridge. Here is a National school. H. C. Lane, Esq., is lord of the manor and chief landowner. The area is 1,270 acres, and the population in 1861 was 190.
