"SCRABBY, (or Ballymackellenny), a parish and small post town in the barony of Tullyhunco, county Cavan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 12 miles S.W. of Cavan, and 89 from Dublin. It is situated on the road from Arvagh to Granard. The surface consists of a medium soil, and comprises the lake of Gowna. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ardagh, value with Granard £411. There is a small church. Fairs are held on 10th February, 12th May, 1st August, and 12th December.
